Mrs Taylor and I are extremely proud to announce that we have been shortlisted for a School's Environment Award. From hundreds of entries from schools, community centres and clubs we have been chosen for the final three and are eagerly waiting to to find out how well we do.
The award is linked to the wonderful work our school council and pupils have done over the past two years to reduce the amount of general waste we send to landfill each month. We are over the moon to tell you that from 25 brown waste bags a week we are down to 5! This is incredible and we couldn't be happier!
We are now recycling paper, card, plastic, cans, glass and food at our school. With new compost bins in the allotment we are able to recycle our fruit peelings and cores after our snack. This compost will then be used to nourish our wonderful beds which have recently been weeded and re-composted by Eco Committee during our Gardening Club just before half term.
As part of the award, members of the Eco Committee had to put together a video application. One sunny afternoon before the holidays Caitlin, Alex, Katie and Jensen from Year 5 and 6, along with myself, joined the Award team to create a 3 minute film of our project. The four pupils were naturals in front of the camera and spoke very well about the work they have been doing this year. They were excellent ambassadors for our school and even if we do not win, they are all winners in our eyes. All of the Eco Committee have worked very hard this year and Mrs Taylor and I couldn't be more proud of each and every one of them. Thank you for making our job so easy!
The final will take place in early July and as soon as we know the results we will let you know. Take a look at the photos from the video shoot below...
