UNICEF Shoe Share

ShoeShare helps children around the world access their right to education.  ShoeShare is a campaign in partnership with the Rights Respecting Schools Award and Clarks Shoes.  This partnership began in May 2017 and so far over 300 schools have taken part.  The ShoeShare campaign collects old or unwanted shoes.  These old or unwanted shoes are then sent for re-use.  For every tonne of shoes collected, a donation is made to Unicef which goes towards education programmes around the world.  

More than 59 million children of primary school age are still not in education. This is just under the population of the UK. Clarks are helping Unicef to provide basic resources such as pens and pencils so that children have the right tools to learn, and also support training teachers and work with governments to ensure the quality and standard of education remains high and children are leaving school able to read and write. 

The aim of ShoeShare is to reach even more children and improve their access to an education.

Penygawsi Primary have decided to take part and are asking for you to send into school any unwanted shoes that you have cluttering your closets, cupboards under the stairs or that you have simply grown out of.  These shoes can be children or adult sizes.  All we ask is that they are in relatively good condition (not broken and no holes visible) and that you bind them together with an elastic band or ribbon to keep the pairs together.  We will then deliver them to our local Clarks store and inform our RRSA contact of the amount of shoes we collected and they will then inform us how much we will have raised.

This scheme is linked to many rights from the United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child.  Two articles include, Article 28: the right to education and Article 24: the right to the best possible health.  We think it is great that we can recycle from richer countries to poorer countries.

If you have any shoes at home you are willing to donate to this special cause, please send them into school by Friday 20th July.  We will start collecting them tomorrow, Wednesday 18th July.
